SMALL BECOMES MIGHTY

At Chick-fil-A, there are an average of 55,000 transactions a month per restaurant. The complimentary sauce packets they make available cost 15 cents each, which translates into $8,000 per month or nearly $100,000 per year. Maybe this is why you rarely see their employees recklessly taking handfuls of these packets and throwing them into the sacks of food.

One Christian counselor said, “If couples would attend to the five percent; the small things, the unfaithfulness may not have happened.  The divorce would not have taken place.”

The story of Joseph is found in the book of Genesis.  He is one of the Bible characters who is followed from birth to death.  We can see the goodness of God displayed in every phase of his life.  In fact, Genesis 39:3,4 says, "And Joseph’s master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hand.  So Joseph found favor in his sight and served him.  Then he made him overseer of his house, and he put all that he had in his hand."

After the incident with Potipher’s wife, where she accused him of trying to molest her, Joseph was thrown in prison.  Yet, even in prison, we see, "But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison."  (Genesis 39:21)

The favor of God was upon Joseph, which is what brought about God’s intervention for him at appropriate times.  As time passes in the prison, Joseph is joined by the chief cup bearer and baker of Pharoah.  They both have a which leads to a great miracle following something that was small.  Genesis 40:6-8a says, And Joseph came in to them, in the morning and looked at them, and saw that they were sad.  Joseph had every natural reason to just shrug off the dilemma of these two new prisoners.  He had suffered injustice at the hands of his brothers and Potiphar and it would be understandable if anger and bitterness would keep him from showing compassion to those in need around him.  Thankfully, Joseph kept his heart right before God, and when he saw their countenance, he responded with care and empathy.

Jospeh asked them, “Why do you look so sad today”?  The cupbearer and baker told Joseph about their dreams and he in turn gave them the interpretations.   Because he took time to use his giftings to try and help these men, it set in motion his deliverance and promotion from the prison to the palace.  Some time later, Pharaoh had his famous dream of the seven healthy and seven skinny cows.  The cupbearer was back in Pharaoh’s good graces now, and when he heard of the dream, he remembered Joseph in prison who correctly interpreted his dream.  Joseph was brought before Pharoah, where the dream was given to him.  Joseph had the correct interpretation and ended up becoming second only to Pharaoh in power, authority, and position in Egypt.  This would never have happened if he hadn’t done the small thing…… “and Joseph looked at them and saw that they were sad.

God is calling us to believe that He is well able to do the small acts of obedience and know that we can see some mighty big results.      In our flesh, we are prone to always look for the big thing to jump on board with.   God wants us to be willing to humble ourselves and start small and insignificant, knowing that He can promote us in due time.
